I worked about 6 hours in the main lab today and got my model plus most of the accessories fully blocked out and a rough pass on the anatomy. Then I went to dinner with J and decided to go with him up to the Powell building. I went into the animation lab there and used the 21" Cintiq to work on an SPN commission I've been poking at all month. Cue orgasm. I didn't think it'd make such a huge deal since I'm pretty darn comfortable drawing with a standard graphics tablet, but oh, oh man. I did in two hours what would normally take me eight, and with a better level of detail. D: In sum, stupid amount of money or not, I know what I'm getting for Christmas. Photoshop CS4 might finally have the ability to rotate your canvas, but gyah, nothing beats just rotating the screen without a keystroke and continuing to draw without pause. I'll probably see if my mommy wants to buy it for me since I just got myself a new laptop, but if not, J and I both got a raise, and I'm sitting on birthday cash plus my tip stash, so a second big purchase this winter isn't going to really hurt.
Despite a mild urge to not do anything at all tomorrow, I think I'll be heading in again so I can work on my hard surface. I was really hoping to make it in to the back-to-back workshops on Friday, but I'll be filling in on the desk at work. The nice thing is that J works line on Friday, so I can have him make me something tasty for lunch! I just have to survive until then and not murder anyone who talks non-stop in the lab.
On a completely unrelated note, peppermint mochas from Peets might be the death of me this season. |

Why can't I finish any of my holiday fics? I did Allie's and oshunanat's is with the beta, but now I'm all scattered; I have a third of littleblackbow's finished and maybe half of accioslash's. I'm not being very speedy these days! It's very disheartening not to be able to work on anything for more than an hour without losing interest. On the plus side, oshunanat's and littleblackbow's fics are awfully fun; I did lots of banter and in littleblackbow's case, tons of sly little rock 'n roll references and pure lunacy. I LOVE writing lunacy. Plus, it puts Draco off. ; ) If any of you have the urge to beta me through these tough holiday times, please let me know.
Also, I discovered someone, whom I dislike and who has a history of outing sockpuppets, has created a sockpuppet. I mean, I caught a bald-faced lie. It's a minor thing, but it's definitely sock behavior, and . . . you know, I don't give a shit about socks. Socking has never particularly bothered me in the past--it's the hypocrysy that annoys me. But I don't know how to screencap and I certainly don't like wank or people who think this sort of shit is fun. But considering his/her past behavior, it sort of gets me steamed up. *wrinkles nose* Oh, wankers. I truly hope you eat your own and he/she will be the next course. Meh. It's just been itching, you know? Like seeing someone steal and you think, "Should I tell someone about that? What's my responsibility, here? Who's being hurt?" and for now . . . no one's being hurt, so I suppose I'll just shut my stupid mouth. It doesn't make any difference anyway. But for Christ's sakes, if seeing someone else sock makes you piss your pants in anger, why the hell would you turn around and do it yourself? Also, how great a world is this that I can mesh socks and pissing your pants into one sentence? And can we get a bra in there as well? Because I like that sort of thing. :D
And I signed up for two more classes today, hurrah! Well, sort of hurrah. I suppose the sooner I get it over with, the better.
P.S. If you didn't sign up for holiday cards a few posts back, YOU BETTER. There are some of you I really wanna send stuff to! And I feel weird sending people things if I haven't been given permission, you know? |

Great set of discussions today -- thank you to all who chimed in. (And sorry that my work of day had me away from the computer for longer than I'd anticipated. I'd intended to jump in a lot more often than I was able to do, but still enjoyed reading the interplay.
(In case it's not clear, I crossposted this morning's invitation to debate between my Cluegirl accounts at LJ and IJ, and also to the LJ where I pretend to be an actual grown up with responsibilities and a career and suchlike. The more I go around digging up information on this episode (and you best believe I AM *g*), the more I'm becoming convinced that those sides are actually, like, THE REAL THING. I know everyone wants to be cynical and think WE WON'T ACTUALLY GET THAT KIND OF AMAZING GREATNESS ONSCREEN...but, ahaha. Seriously. There are spoilers out there from fairly reliable sources SPECIFICALLY SAYING "In a February episode, the Brothers Dubya get put under a spell that forces them to beat the living daylights out of each other and confront their true feelings. And in exactly that order" and "Dean isn't getting what he expects from Sam" and then the stuff about Sam and Cara, and Nick the "siren", and basically, EVERYTHING kinda fits. It's not like when they would try to pull one over on us by switching the names around or like, blacking out dialogue or WHATEVER. IDK!
Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but THAT'S TOO MUCH OF A COINCIDENCE FOR ME HAHAHA. I don't care if they just mean...whatever. I don't care however they try to rationalize it. I THINK THAT LINE WILL ACTUALLY STAND.
AND I AM DYING.
ps. It's not like they've actually ever pulled back on the potential subtext, anyway. I don't see why they would ON ACTUAL TEXT HAHA. Male Crossroads Demon, anyone? Is it gone? Really gone -- gone? Because the last time it was 'kinda gone', I lost dozens of feedback comments, and... well, fine, call me shallow and all, but I'm not all that sanguine about my having the heart to rebuild or re-update there if it's lost again. As amanuensis1 says, it would be another triumph of entropy over creation, and it would make me very very sad indeed.
And that's not even getting INTO the number of my favorite stories which I have only ever located there!
No, Skyehawke being kaput is Not Allowed. It makes the Maiden Brighid cry, and that's never a good thing.
Not allowed at ALL.
Someone tell me it ain't so... please?

Today we recognize the hard-won achievement and dedication of artists and their teams who strive for excellence in fanart and Snarry. I know that every Champion worked hard for the good of their team and they all deserve highest marks for their efforts. We were all lucky to have won something during these Games.
However, in the competition we set out to do, the Snarry Games Judges (you, the readers) have voted to score these teams, both having shown up to these Games with the most stellar of performances, allowing one to edge out the other for Gold.

Dear Friends of Snarry:
Hi. My name is djin7, and it's time that we begin to say goodbye to the 2008 Snarry Games.
This was an amazing year, and the Art Games once again showed that the most talented people are still within the Snarry fandom. We had 50 truly exquisite pieces of art, and as always, great 'crack art' & interviews. We were able to post twice daily for nearly a month, and we have a great group of artists to thank for that.
Also, many Champions, past and present, helped this round of the Games with pimping and reccing, and commenting. Our hope always has been to help facilitate a sense of community in this fandom, hoping to keep the SS Snarry sailing on happy waters. When we see how fantastically supportive past champions are, whether author or artist, it makes all our hard work worth every minute spent. Thank you, all!
I ran across a quote that reminded me of fandom; and of Snarry in particular: "What moves men of genius, or rather what inspires their work, is not new ideas, but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said is still not enough."

Okay, I really have nothing of REAL importance to discuss today...I'm still working through all the responses to the lovey-meme from the other day, and I completely slept through this apparent LJ downtime, so that was pretty awesome. And then I watched Iron Man for the first time (I KNOW, I SUCK) and HOLY CRAP IT WAS AMAZING. I was so confused, because I love RDJ as an actor, but have never found him remotely attractive IN MY LIFE. BUT, GOD. HE WAS. I'm not immune to the suit at all.
BUT MOSTLY, YOU GUUUUUYS. I'M PRETTY FUCKING SURE I'M LIKE. 2000 WORDS AWAY FROM BEING DONE WITH SWEET CHARITY! \o/\o/\o/ So, I'm projecting fic this weekend! I promised my person she could horde it to herself for a few days while I'm editing (</a></b></a>kittyzams, EXPECT EMAIL TONIGHT), SO. YAY FIC!
